Leawood, Kansas — Kansas City-based community bank nbkc bank is reopening their Leawood branch in partnership with Shop Local KC to create a unique, local banking experience.
nbkc bank and Shop Local KC will host an open house event to reopen the 1,850-square-foot branch and showcase their new shared space on Thursday, October 13 from 4 – 6 p.m. at 3510 95th St, Leawood, Kansas 66206. Media are invited to attend and interview at any time from 4 – 6 p.m.
The two partnering organizations will host a celebratory event to showcase their shared space, which jointly features the work of local artists, makers and retailers. The retail space will also feature Shop Local KC’s full marketplace of offerings, which includes apparel, accessories, home goods, artwork and other unique retail items supplied by local creators.
“nbkc is proud to welcome our customers back into the bank with this unique banking and retail experience,” said Melissa Eggleston, nbkc’s Chief Deposit Officer, Executive Vice President. “We are committed to giving back and supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs in Kansas City and throughout the nation. That’s why we decided to partner with a local, woman-owned small business that champions Kansas City entrepreneurs.”
nbkc’s location in the Ranch Mart North shopping center, which the bank has occupied since 1999, recently underwent a series of upgrades to modernize its appearance. The new space, designed by architecture and interior design firm Multistudio (formerly Gould Evans), features an 800-square-foot patio and a large custom bar, as well as high ceilings and enlarged windows to fill the space with natural light.
nbkc first opened its Leawood branch in Ranch Mart North more than 20 years ago and chose to renovate rather than relocate to another area. Eggleston says that the location is an important part of the bank’s identity.
“Kansas City is our home, so maintaining our presence in Ranch Mart North was essential for nbkc,” she said. “As a community bank, we wanted to elevate the banking experience and create a space that reintroduces nbkc to Leawood residents.”
Shop Local KC’s space inside of nbkc is its second location in the KC area since opening its original store in Midtown in July 2021. The new store will operate as a full marketplace with art, gifts, clothing, accessories, flowers and more.
“Growing up in the Ranch Mart area, it’s a dream come true to open my second Shop Local KC retail store in Johnson County in this specific area, and it would not be possible without the support from nbkc bank,” said Katie Mabry van Dieren, owner of Shop Local Kansas City. “The alignment of their mission to support local businesses through banking and Shop Local KC’s mission to create a space for locally-owned makers and artists to showcase and sell their products is a perfect fit, and we look forward to offering a truly unique experience for the community to find gifts, flowers and more at this shop.”
